Heritage/Archaeology of Nuclear Power

On 8 March 2024, Marko Mikael Marila and Anna Storm organized a double session on “Heritage/Archaeology of Nuclear Power” at the Nordic TAG 2024 conference in Turku, Finland. The fourteen papers explored topics ranging from representations of nuclear disasters in literary fiction and visual culture, over a wide range of artistic practices engaging with social, environmental, and aesthetic expressions of nuclear activities, to localized and transnational histories of weapons testing, uranium mining, decommissioning, and nuclear afterlives. The participants represented several different disciplines and international geographies. The great response to the call for papers clearly shows an increasing interest in and growing scholarly community around social science and humanities perspectives on nuclear-related topics.
