In mid-June, “Theorizing the Nuclear Age in International Relations” brought together more than 20 international scholars to discuss nuclear imaginaries, intersections and legacies. Paper presentations ranged from the images of nuclearity in popular culture to the global politics of nuclear deterrence.

The Nuclear Natures team contributed with two papers. Hannah and Anna presented their research on nuclear power plant visitor and information centres, and Marko talked about the legacies and eco-aesthetics of Finnish uranium prospecting. All in all, the workshop was very fruitful in highlighting the intricate historical and conceptual connections between military and peaceful uses of nuclear power, something that will definitely inform our future research on the relationship between nuclear power and nature.
We want to thank DIIS for a very pleasant and well-organised event (and the delicious Danish pastries).
